About
The Wellington BESS is proposed to be developed, constructed and operated at 6773 Goolma Road, Wuuluman NSW 2820.
The Wellington Battery Energy Storage System project consists of a grid-scale BESS with a discharge capacity of 500 megawatts and a storage capacity of 1,000 megawatt hours within a landholding immediately east of the TransGrid Wellington Substation.
The project will include a substation, a control and office building, civil works, and electrical infrastructure required to connect to the existing electricity network. Construction is set to begin in early-2023 and will provide up to 100 full-time-equivalent construction roles throughout the construction process. The BESS will improve the efficiency and reliability of the electrical grid by collecting energy from the electricity grid, storing it and discharging that energy to provide electricity when needed, in addition to providing critical grid support services.
